BOYS' HOCKEY-SCC TOURNAMENT APPROACHING

The Southern Connecticut Conference Division II boys' hockey tournament is only a month away and it shapes up as one of the most exciting events with many strong Division II teams in the conference this season.
Based on league records, the top four teams advance to the tournament. Semifinals will be held on Feb. 28 at the Northford Ice Pavilion in North Branford at 5 p.m. and 8 p.m. The championship game will be Feb. 29 at the Northford Ice Pavilion at 7 p.m.
Amity-Woodbridge (8-4-1, 5-0), Sheehan-Wallingford (9-3, 4-1) and Cheshire (11-2-1, 3-1) are virtual locks to advance. Branford (5-7, 2-2), Milford (4-8, 1-3), Guilford (5-8, 1-3) and Lyman Hall-Wallingford (1-11, 1-3) are competing for the fourth spot, although the Hornets are currently in control with a 2-2 mark.
There is no SCC Division I tournament mostly because coaches on that level opt to close out the season by playing non-league games and avoid playing each other a possible fourth time in the state playoffs (twice in the regular season, once in the SCC tournament and again in the CIAC Division I tournament).

Who's your pick? Amity, Cheshire & Sheehan all look strong. Vieira's been around a long time and you know he'll have his team ready, so you can't ever count Branford out, though...

The SCC tournament should be an exciting one because any one of these teams can win it. You can make an argument for any team but I think at the very least it would be a surprise if Amity wasn't in the championship game. Dan Nowak

Seriously - do you ever update this blog? From the looks of things you seem to respond when people leave you comments, so here goes. You haven't actually made an entry on this thing in almost 3 weeks! What gives? I like your weekly hockey columns because they are usually pretty insightful and you seem to actually know about the hockey history in this area. (though I must agree with the other commentor that covering schools other than Notre Dame, West Haven and Prep would spice it up a bit) When someone told me you had a blog I figured I'd check it out. This is pretty shaky, though, I've got to say. The guy up at the courant (http://blogs.courant.com/school_zone/) is putting you to shame - and he doesn't even sound like he knows what he's talking about half the time! He just regurgitates stats & polls. Throw us a bone - or at the very least, a weekly blog entry...
